Gentle giants

This poem, which describes four amazing hours with a family of mountain gorillas in Bwindi National Park/Impenetrable Forest in Uganda, was written during a class that explored different poetry forms.

An example of a location poem, it was published in the 2025 poetry anthology, Diving into Poetry Forms.

Time to Just Be

Friendships Are Fire

The phrase “Keep a little fire burning; however small, however hidden.” by Cormac McCarthy, The Road, inspired me to reflect on friendships I have experienced over the years. This poem is the result.

This poem was published in Volume 32, Issue 4, Winter 2024/2025, Alaska Women Speak.

Tropical Storm

Inspiration for “Tropical Storm” was based on rainy season experiences at the Hacienda Baru Lodge and Selva Verde Rainforest Reserve in Costa Rica, the Iberá Wetlands in Argentina, and the City of Kuching on the Malaysian island of Borneo.

This poem was published in Volume 32, Issue 3, Fall 2024, Alaska Women Speak.
