Hiking across tussocks
among immense landscapes.
Stopped in my tracks
by an Arctic poppy.
Lemon-yellow petals
surround a feathery
star-shaped stigma
rising up from
a pale green receptacle.
Slender filaments
topped with golden anthers
lie willy nilly
atop the petals.
Stretched ever skyward
toward the midnight sun.
Its gift of pollen awaits
a wild honeybee.
